La Habra Ambulance Services Program

JOB DESCRIPTION:

    • La Habra Ambulance Operators (Driver & Attendant) serve with the City’s Fire and EMS partner, the Los Angeles County Fire Department and respond to fire, EMS and other emergency events within the City of La Habra.

    • Ambulance Operators reside in their assigned Fire Station and work rotating shifts in accordance with the LACOFD (Kelley) work schedules (24 hour shifts for an average 56 hour work week).

    • This program exposes the Ambulance Operators to the life, routines and some training associated with a career in the Fire and EMS service which has proven to be a unique way to acquire the knowledge and experience to effectively compete in firefighter examinations and hiring processes.


QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 18 years old

    • High school graduate or equivalent

    • California Class C Driver’s License

    • Possess a current CPR Card

    • Possess valid Emergency Medical Technician - EMT-1 , EMT II or EMT-P (per 1797.80 1797.82 & 1797.84 H&S Code.).

    • Satisfactory completion of a California State Fire Marshall accredited Fire Academy as evidenced by related certificates of completion.

    • California (DMV) issued Ambulance Driver Certificate must be obtained prior to employment.


REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION UPON APPLICATION:

    • Current Resume

    • Copy of current California Driver’s License

    • Copy of current EMT Certification

    • Copies of certificates indicating completion of a Fire Marshall approved Fire Academy or Firefighter I Certification.

REQUIRED PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT:

    • Copy of Ambulance License & Medical Examiner's Certificate

     

EXAMINATION PROCESS:

           • Submission and review of required documentation.

           • Oral board examination.

           • Satisfactory completion of a medical examination and drug test.

           • Satisfactory completion of a background investigation consisting of live-scan fingerprint submission, driving record and background review.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

    • $8.50 per hour with time-and-a-half ($12.75) for hours over 40 hours per week (average of about $544 per 56 hour week).

    • A comprehensive medical, dental vacation and sick pay benefit package upon completion of 90 days as a full time employee.
